First Meeting and Synergies With EU Sister Projects

The GREAT project is delighted to have two sister projects within the EU Research and innovation on cultural heritage program. These projects are:

• Empowered Participation through Ideating Cultural Worlds and Environments: youth imagining, creating and exchanging cultural values and heritage through game-making (EPIC-WE), which introduces cultural game jams, culture- and value-sensitive game-making and games through and for culture as a novel approach to empower young people as co-creators of European culture and shapers of their own futures in society, cultural institutions and creative industries. (Coordinators: Rikke Toft Nørgård (Coordinator, Aarhus University, Denmark), Emilia Alegria (Project Manager))
• Locative Games for Cultural Heritage (LoGaCulture), which utilize locative games in cultural heritage in order to improve access by offering alternative experiences and widening audiences, they can aid in preservation by managing footfall and focusing digital assets, and they can increase engagement and allow visitors to see their heritage in new ways. (Coordinators: David Millard (Southhampton, UK), Dina Dionisio (Project Manager, Tecnico Lisboa, Portugal), Valentina Nisi and Nuno Nunes)

The first EU Cluster meeting took place on 18 September 2023 together with the EU project officers as well as two to three representatives of each project - GREAT, EPIC-WE and LoGaCulture. Professor Paul Hollins (University of Bolton, UK) and Jude Ower (Playmob, UK) represented GREAT and discussed potential synergies with the sister projects, such as collaboration on a collective case study, and potential joint publications, amongst others.

The GREAT project is planning to hold its second consortium meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark hosted by our commercial partner SGI on 28-29 February 2024. If resources allow, we would be delighted to welcome Rikke Toft Nørgård (Aarhus University, Denmark, Coordinator of EPIC-WE) and include Rikke in our consortium meeting to discuss further potential, concrete collaborations. In the meantime, online discussions are taking place to further materialize ongoing joint activities.

The EU Cluster meeting was indeed a fruitful introduction to potential upcoming collaborations and we look forward to deepening the ties and synergies with our sister projects.
