PlanetPlay leads the charge for climate action at the UN

We’re passionate about using the power of games for good. And that's why as part of our Earth Month commitments in April we were thrilled to lead a delegation of game studios to the UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Climate Promise event at UN HQ.

The Climate Promise is a critical initiative that supports countries in taking bold action against climate change. We're talking about keeping things cool (literally!) and staying below the 1.5-degree warming limit set in the Paris Agreement.

So, how can games help? At a special roundtable with the UNDP, facilitated by PlanetPlay CEO Rhea Loucas and Playmob CEO Jude Ower, along with SYBO CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig leading the conversation from a studio perspective, and UNDP Global Director of Climate Change, Cassie Flynn, we discussed exactly that.

We were also joined by industry leaders from Bolton University, The Danish Trade Council, JSA, Riot Games, Tilting Point, The Raine Group, Unity and Xbox.

We brainstormed ways to use games to mobilise player communities and inspire action on climate change.

Imagine millions of gamers getting fired up about protecting the planet through in-game events, surveys, and stories that make a difference.

One studio, SYBO, is already a champion for this. They partnered with PlanetPlay and music star J Balvin to raise awareness and funds for climate action through their hit game Subway Surfers – Talk about a real-world impact!

Speaking of impact, we also unveiled our own Make Green Tuesday Moves initiative at the event. This programme empowers studios, publishers, and gamers to make a difference in the fight against climate change.

We're all in this together, and the games industry can be a powerful force for good. Let's rally our communities and make a real change for our planet!
